Queensland Government, Australia, Safety Bulletin from November 2016. Fires on fixed plant and mobile equipment at mines and quarries continue to represent a significant proportion of High Potential Incidents (HPIs) reported to the Queensland Mines Inspectorate – mines inspectorate analysis.

This detailed study covers a range of mobile and fixed plant fires and acts as a meta-analysis to consolidate the fires into a range of causes.

Recommendations are made, including: 

  • Confirming risk analyses place appropriate weighting on preventative controls for fires 
  • Leadership commitment to fire prevention and emergency response readiness 
  • Engineering and maintenance measures to identify and eliminate fire threats, and
  • Change management protocols that should be in place
